Often the designs we consider classics were simply necessities of their time.

In the early 1920s, rampant demand and scarce materials required pen makers to be inventive. For our company’s first Technical Director, it was an opportunity to break from tradition.

The Elmo 01 taps the maverick spirit of Heinrich ‘Elmo’ Helm. Active until 1928, his bold experiments with shape and colour helped make our pens a mainstay of Italian universities and workplaces. A century later, his stripped-back ideas embody the essential spirit of Italian Every Day Carry and Montegrappa Vintage Class.
