Yakumo, floating clouds painted on the ceiling of Izumo Shrine, is used as a motif. The sea of clouds is described brightly with colored urushi while the outlying has been drawn in silver to accentuate the design. It undergoes a grinding process where by the multilayers of colored urushi is brought to the surface. Numerous processes are necessary in the delicate and time-consuming art of Togi-Yakumo. With time, urushi becomes increasingly more transparent, thus the pattern starts slightly to emerge, changing into a deeper and richer pattern within its glossy finish. This gives it a mysterious feel.
